I’m sure you’ve all already heard about the new game by CCP that was recently announced, Dust 514. Understandably, some people are pretty peeved that after years of keeping CCP going on the PC, they’re releasing a game solely on consoles. Potentially shutting out some of the already solidly established fan base. One of these peeved players (Sable Blitzmann) has started a thread on the EVE forums for other players to sign if they agree that Dust 514 should be on PC as well as consoles.
The idea of an EVE FPS has excited me for a while now, but it’s absolutely infuriating that CCP has decided to release this game solely on consoles. Quite frankly, it’s a slap in the face to the current EVE community (since we’re all on PC’s to begin with).
Please, sign this petition if you’d like this game to eventually be released for the PC too. Apparently, porting a 360 game to the PC is not too intensive and completely possible, so it shouldn’t be too much trouble. Besides, what happens to this new game when the next gen of consoles comes around and the 360 is left in the dust (lol, pun)?

Personally, I’m all for Dust being on PCs as well as consoles. I massively prefer playing an FPS on PC. I’m all for the improved accuracy that a mouse offers over a controller pad and a little joystick. CCP could even follow in the footsteps of the 2007 Xbox 360 game Shadowrun and implement some very light auto aiming for console players to counteract the improved accuracy of the PC players.
For me, it goes a little like this;
Chance of me playing an FPS MMO on a console = Slim to none
Chance of me playing an FPS MMO on a PC = Extremely effing likely!
If you also agree with this, go ahead and leave your opinion (or even just a ‘/signed’) at the forum thread.
Disclaimer: It’s not 100% definite that there will not be a PC version at the moment as the only news we have is that console versions have been confirmed but a PC version hasn’t been denied. That said, why would they withhold PC release info from the players of their PC only game? Surely, they’d announce that first.

As you say, formats and other details have not been released yet. I would guess that to begin with this will be a console exclusive. Sony and MS often ask for an exclusive period as a condition of gaining a license to publish on their hardware, once this period is over though and depending on interest and other factors it may get a PC release.
TBH Shadowrun was an abortion of a game, there was no way that PC players playing against Console players would have any chance at all, even with the auto-aim assistance being given to pad users. It didn't really work and I don't see any future game trying that system again for a long time. Unless MS and Sony make a keyboard and mouse control system an option on their consoles (not going to happen) console and PC FPS games are always going to be completely separate entities.

Yeah, I reckon it's pretty likely that they're going to announce a PC version eventually.
I really liked Shadowrun tbh but each to their own I guess.

I don't belive this…not on PC…What are they thinking…why can't it be released on both. I just don't get it.
Very disheartened.

Mandrill's right, no way they would let PC players against console players, they wouldn't stand a chance. However I know a lot of console users who never buy FPS games on their consoles because they prefer the mouse keyboard combo. I too very much doubt we'll see this on the PC. But to bring players on the console market into the Eve universe could be extremely profitable, even drive PC sales. What an awesome idea, too bad I will not be playing dust though, not a console fan.

Same. Seeing as their only other game is on PC, it makes sense that they should at least include a PC option.
August 24th, 2009 at 3:48 pm
I guess it's one of those cases of no matter how awesome it sounds, it just will never work out enough so that console and PC players will be happy and equal.

It should be on the PC, that's where it would make the best fit.

There's also a thread in the CSM section now that also needs people's support, so make sure to go sign that too!

ya but with everyone playing it on the pc there would be little amount of people playing eve and that was the purpose for both games to play in sync without disrupting the amount of players already on eve there is no point in dust if there are no eve players
September 19th, 2009 at 9:45 pm
You've definitely got a point there. Although I'm sure that no matter what platform it's on, there'll be some people that will stop playing EVE in favour of Dust.

eve and dust go hand in hand, i find it much more likely that eve players might get dust to enhance they're eve universe experience rather than give up eve for this. i think that a lot of would be eve players deterred by the steep learning curve will however pick this up.

I think their decision is a safety move. Moving out from the current state of EVE to introduce another "facet" with a different play style seems hardly threatening to a game that works its magic over longer periods of time. IE in halo, the longer one plays, the less there is to do or be done within the game. It becomes the same old maps with the same old weapons and same old hash (subjective), while in EVE, you can argue that the longer you play, the more content becomes available to you. There is an initial investment of time within the game before you start seeing rewards, but those rewards are persistent which is what draws people in.
By releasing DUST on the console first, you can get an idea of the game's success or failure without drawing too much of your current player-base away from your main product. If EVE tanks, DUST tanks. What is the likelihood of EVE going belly up because of DUST? I'd wager it's not really sane to assume it will happen, but at the same time from a marketing and sustainability standpoint, you have to factor these things in. If you release your "expansion" on a different platform, you are drawing in a different demographic of subscribers / players, and therefore pocketing much more profit overhead.
Think of it this way; you are really hungry, starving even. Do you cut off your own arm in order to eat? or would you go to the pantry and look for something new to consume? It's my personal subjective opinion that CCP is going to the pantry with DUST, and once they have their projections and all contracts to the console kings are fulfilled, we could expect s PC variant.
Now with the inclusion of a PC format for DUST, I would imagine that the persistence would remain, as it is the staple of DUST and EVE, but you would be in arms with other PC players. DUST PC would allow you to fight for planet control and whatever else the game has to offer, along side other DUST PC players. DUST 514 will allow you to fight for planet control and etc along side other DUST 514 players, just as EVE allows you to inject yourself into a persistent player fueled universe along side other EVE players.
Sorry for my lengthy post, but at least I wasn't ranting, right? =P
/Signed. Give us PCers something to gnaw on. Nothing has filled the gap since SOE released Core Combat into Planetside like a lethal injection.

this game is great they will sell prety good if it was on PC

MMOFPS on a console? Dont make me laugh!
Given that most console users are unaware of EvE and quite happy to hold up Modern Warfare 2 as the be all and end all of FPS, releasing this on a purely console basis will gaurentee it flops harder than a spring onion in a sauna!

Here is the thing, EVE won't die out if they put this on PC! Why?
Cause of people like my brother, he hates eve but loves FPS's and mmo's..
This is the game that would grab the rest of the gamers out there into new eden.
